How we check our guides

Immigration information affects people’s lives and money, so every guide follows the same rules before it is published and each time it is updated.

  1. Official sources only

Every rule, deadline and number is checked against an official source: canada.ca (IRCC), the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and its Regulations on the Justice Laws website, the Immigration and Refugee Board, the Federal Court, quebec.ca, and the CICC public register. Practitioner material and news may point us to a topic, but they are never the source of a rule.

  2. Every rule has a reference

Each guide lists its references at the end, with the date the source page was last modified. Key quotes sit next to the sentence they support, so you can check them yourself.

  3. If we can’t verify it, it isn’t there

We leave out anything we can’t confirm: typical fees, “usual” processing times, success rates, or rules that official sources describe differently. When sources disagree, the official source wins and the guide says what to confirm.

  4. Dated, and re-checked

The “Cross-checked” date on each guide is the last time its facts were compared with their sources. We re-check guides when IRCC announces a change that affects them, and update that date when we do.

  5. No paid influence

No consultant, firm or advertiser pays to appear in, shape or review a guide. Guides never rank or recommend a particular consultant; they point you to the official register and to matching, where nobody pays to rank higher.

General information, not legal advice. Rules change and every case is different. Before you act, confirm on canada.ca or talk to a licensed consultant or lawyer about your own situation.
